Issues: Oil and Gas

Matt Lesser is already looking ahead to the winter, when many residents of the 100th District will face unprecedented difficulty in keeping their homes heated. With the price of heating oil at record highs, those of modest means or on a fixed income will be forced to make impossible sacrifices as they struggle to pay their heating bills.

That is why, on July 26, 2008, Matt Lesser called on Governor Rell to work with Democrats in the legislature to address this imminent crisis. Following his press conference approximately two dozen volunteers went door-to-door in Middletown raising awareness of this critical issue and collecting over two hundred signatures on a petition he delivered to Hartford. Matt Lesser is already providing the kind of effective leadership we will need to maximize state and federal funding for heating assistance programs so that aid does not run out halfway through the winter.

Meanwhile, Matt Lesser is looking to conservation and renewable energy as long-term solutions to prevent the recurrance of such a crisis. We must all strive to conserve energy in our homes, making sure that minimal heat escapes and our heating equipment is functioning at maximum efficiency. And in the long run, renewable energy sources must come to replace our reliance on a limited supply of fossil fuels. Only then will the state be able to keep all Connecticut residents from freezing over the winter.
